Biosolids Stakeholder Listening Session

Tuesday, August 27, 2019

TIME & LOCATION

11:00 a.m. in Pioneer Room

ABOUT THIS EVENT

KWEA will be holding an open listening session for Kansas agencies that utilize land application of biosolids as part of their resource recovery activities. The session is a coordinated national effort by WEF and NACWA to provide stakeholder information on the value of biosolids as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) develops risk assessment protocols and future regulations on land application. National concerns were raised by the EPA Office of Inspector General (OIG) report in November 2018 entitled, "EPA Unable to Assess the Impact of Hundreds of Unregulated Pollutants in Land-Applied Biosolids on Human Health and the Environment."

WEF, NACWA and other regional partners have worked to help advise EPA of the benefits of biosolids utilization, working with the EPA's Office of Science and Technology to refute many of the claims in the OIG report.

This listening session will provide information as one of at least twelve planned listening sessions being held this summer prior to a national WEF Biosolids Convening in November in Washington DC.

Come to this session to learn more and provide your input at 11 a.m., Tuesday August 27, in Pioneer room—immediately following the opening general session.

Matt Bond, Past President of KWEA and WEF, and Steve Dye, WEF Director of Legislative Affairs, will lead the session.
